Indian Tea Chai or Masala Chai is a traditional Indian drink. Its recipe is composed of black tea in boiled water and milk in which we add one or more spices such as cardamom, cloves, ginger or pepper. We may also use a spice blend called Masala in India (Hindi), with several spices mixed together to powder. The drink is then filtered through a strainer before serving.
In India, it is common to find, at any time and any place, Chai vendors called Chai Wallahs or Chaiwalas. The tea is served quickly and hot in a cup or a glass.
