The chickpea, also called Indian pea, is in the family of Fabaceae. It is mostly grown in India where it is called Chana. The chickpea flour or gram flour, called Besan in India is one of the most widely used ingredients in the cooking of northern India.
It is used in many Indian recipes, like bhajis, pakoras, bombay mix. But in India, it is also used as a cosmetic because it is a natural exfoliant that women use to make masks.
Chickpeas are rich in carbohydrates and proteins, which makes it very attractive to a vegetarian diet.
